Moving to any new city can be a challenge. Along with finding an affordable home in your desired part of the city, there is also the process of getting to know the ins and outs of the city as well. With that in mind, lets briefly review Las Vegas with an emphasis on the pros and cons of this unique city. With that being said, lets begin.

Frequently known as just Vegas, Las Vegas is unique. Known for the strip, Las Vegas has reinvented itself several times. An internationally known resort city, Las Vegas makes its money through gambling, tourism, and shopping. Known as Capital of the World, Las Vegas supports a population of just over 600,000, the metropolitan area has a population of over 2 million.

The Pros of Living in the Las Vegas

1. The Climate
Do you hate long winters and maybe three or for months of good weather? What if it were the other way around? In Las Vegas, you will have on average between eight and nine months of excellent weather. In addition, the bad weather will be hot, instead of cold. While this will be a small difference for some, for those who hate the cold there can be no better option. Las Vegas can even have some cold days as well, allowing for a number of different seasonal experiences. As a result of the weather, hiking and bike trails run throughout the city and surrounding area, forming an exciting opportunity for those who like to stay healthy.

2. The Las Vegas Real Estate Market
Do you want to buy a house for cheap? Las Vegas is THE buyers market for real estate. One of the hardest hit markets in the United States, Las Vegas has come back from the economic downturn. One of the last things to recover is the housing market. What this means is that if you are looking for a house, then you will be able to choose from an incredible selection of properties throughout the city. From condos and housing developments now under construction again to discounted deals that will amaze you, Las Vegas is the place to buy a home.

3. Entertainment
Being the entertainment capital of the world means having more to do then just gamble. Las Vegas is the best place to have access to some of the best entertainment in the world. While most entertainment will be spread throughout the city making it a challenge to get to, Las Vegas has centralized the majority of its entertainment to the strip. What this means is an exciting arrangement of entertainment from around the world all located within walking distance of one another. Along with great access to food and entertainment venues that come through the community, Las Vegas has one of the best selections of entertainment in the country.

The Cons of Living In Las Vegas

1. The Job Market
If you are thinking about moving to Las Vegas, then you should already have a job planned out and waiting for you. While every city is known for some kind of manufacturing, Las Vegas is the center of the hospitality industry. If this is the field for you, then excellent! However, many of these jobs pay low wages until you get into specialized fields or middle management. There are some other sectors in the city, but these can be relatively limited. Some of these include the small business owners, local services, education, and medical. With a great deal of competition for these positions, you may find it challenging to get a job right off the bat if you do not already have one lined up.

2. Gambling
If you do not like gambling and the atmosphere that is created by gambling then Las Vegas is not the place for you. While Las Vegas offers a wide variety of entertainment beyond gambling, it is important to remember that gambling is still central to their success. From slot machines in gas stations to constant advertisements in local and state wide commercials, you should be prepared to be inundated with casinos and gambling. In addition, if you have any record of gambling addiction and you want to get better, then Las Vegas is the last place you want to move to.

3. Finding Community and Support
Las Vegas is a sprawl, which can make finding friends, a community, and a support group challenging. People are constantly moving from home to work, and there can be very little sense of a community in the city. One of the best ways to meet people is through interest groups. Whether it be community support or organizations like car enthusiasts, you can start making friends through these organizations. That being said, it may take some time and effort on your part.
