Amelia Earhart was a pilot and author from Atchison, Kansas. She was the very first female aviator to fly by herself across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 she attempted to fly completely around the globe when her plane and her disappeared over the Pacific ocean. She was declared dead on January 5, 1939 however she was never found.
