Sojourner Truth was an abolitionist and women’s rights activist from the early 1700′s. She was born into slavery and escaped to freedom in 1826. She went to court to get her infant son whom she had to leave behind, and when she won she became the first black woman to win a case against a white man. She died in 1883 at the age of 86.
